Most applications today that use directional blasting cabinets require hand-held guns for part processing, but there are some parts that process better and faster using batch loads. This is the function of all tumble basket and tumble barrel machines.
The TB-5 by Media Blast® is a complete sandblasting cabinet equipped with a removable tumble basket for larger and smaller parts that will process using a two directional mix. Tumble Baskets normally have a removable basket with an open top mounted inside the machine. This allows small part processing for smaller loads, basket removal for load and unload is required. Larger parts can also be processed in the basket, but total basket weight for the removable basket including parts must be considered for operator safety. This type of unit will process many different part sizes and shapes. The parts and budget you have will decide which machine is best suited for the application, basket or barrel.
Tumble basket equipped blast cabinets are not as fast at mixing parts as the tumble barrel design so they require a longer basket processing time. Some companies offer large tumble basket models and they need to then supply multiple guns and an oscillator to cover the blasting area. These then are smaller gun sizes to prevent part slamming and nicking. The result is lower frictional heat and even longer cycle times, just the opposite of what you need for large processing tumblers.
The TB-5 is a complete machine with a dust collector and abrasive separator reclaimer for operation using 0-150 mesh abrasive. The TB-5 is also available in the TB-5 Cyclone model with larger blower and larger dust collector. This includes the pneumatic conveyor for fine and ultra-fine abrasive use. The Cyclone model is used to aerate, dry and keep the finer abrasives flowing using a basket type machine.
For speed of loading and unloading, shortest processing time and three directional part mixing look to the Tumble Barrels for faster processing and easy drum load and unload.

56 cfm @ 100 psi (most tumble machines operate at higher pressure because of the distance of the nozzle to the parts)
We recommend using facility compressed air with line pressure of 100 psi or higher. Lower pressure will work but the loss of frictional heat will increase processing time. Air compressors vary greatly, check the cfm output on the compressor being used or visit Air Basics for more information on compressor selection. Pro Tip: Never buy a compressor using the displacement cfm number, always use the second cfm volume number listed with 90-100 psi inside the tank, because tank pressure reduces performance.
