MODEL: Tumble Blast (Tumble
Barrel/Tumble Basket
)
While most applications
today using cabinets require operator directional
blasting (
), hand held guns, some parts because of
their small size and quantity can be finished
in batch loads (
) using a “Tumble Barrel"
or "Tumble Basket” machine.
Proper machine selection occurs when the definition
of barrel and basket are completely understood.
Tumble Barrel (
) machines normally have the barrel attached to
the cabinet door or sidewall. Rotation of the
barrel produces the random part mix (
). Simultaneously
the parts are blasted using a stationary blast
gun directed inside the rotating barrel. This
type of processing produces the fastest random
part mix due to the shape of the barrel and the
processing angle of the barrel, perpendicular.
During rotation, the parts that are away from
the blast are automatically brought toward the
center and parts on the sidewalls are brought
to the center. If the barrel is mounted on a side
access door the parts can be loaded and unloaded
outside the machine with very little operator
involvement. Variable Speed barrel or basket rotation
is advantageous because it allows each part shape
and size to rotate at its optimal tumble speed.
Tumble barrel
machines usually operate with parts 5 inches in
length and shorter and operate with part loads
up to 50-60 pounds. Smaller barrels will process
smaller part loads but it is important to remember
that the parts are what protect the barrel during
processing and the barrel should alwarys be sized
accordingly.
Tumble Basket (
) machines usually have a fixed or removable basket,
open top, mounted inside the machine at 45 degrees
to perpendicular. This machine type will process
larger and longer parts, 5 inch and above, but
due to the processing angle of the basket the
part random mix requires smaller processing loads
and longer processing time periods. Often times
tumble basket machines have a less densely packed
basket due to part shape.
Tumble Basket
machines are normally less costly than barrel
type machines but it’s truly the part shape
that decides which machine will be best suited
for the application.
Media
Blast manufactures 4 “Tumble Barrel”
machine options and 2 complete “Tumble Basket
machines”.
Tumble Barrel machine options are complete but
added to one of the Media Blast machine models.
The machine model is decided by the abrasive size
to be used in the system. Adding the required
Tumble Barrel Option, TB-1, 2, 3 or 4, to the
selected machine model completes the tumble barrel
machine. The large demand for Tumble Barrel machines
and the wide range of required abrasive sizes,
dictates adding the option to a given machine
type. This allows a Tumble Barrel Option to be
attached to a Wet or Dry machine type. In addition,
the option can be operational with normal abrasive
size or ultra-fine abrasive (
) sizes.
Read the features included with each Tumble Barrel
description and you will see that everything is
included and assembled to create a truly complete
machine package. Pricing is accomplished by adding
the cost of the tumble barrel option to the required
siphon abrasive machine model and cabinet size.
