The Tornado, Pollution Control Work Bench from Media Blast, is a simple, well designed, down draft work bench used for the control of almost all types of nuisance dusts that can result from operations involving grinding, sanding, deburring and more. These units are totally self-contained and include 220 or 440 square feet of replaceable filter cartridge that carry a filter certification of 99.97% on .5 micron particle size. No Special Electrical or special ducting is required and all units include a blower silencer to allow air discharge back into the area where the bench is located. This prevents loss of heated or cooled air when working in smaller work spaces.

Media Blast’s Pollution Control Benches are portable, compact and cost effective for the collection of all types of nuisance dusts. Designed to create up to 500 feet per minute of down draft tabletop velocity, the Tornado creates better, balanced air flow, over the entire top work surface of the bench by using a special plenum design below the operator work grate. You can also operate this unit without the air-flow on, making this a space saving solution (when limited floor space is an issue), by creating a lighted work bench that can replace any existing work table.

All models include the 700 cfm, 120 volt blower, for quick easy machine set-up. The blower, using the open top with the air directional back and sides, all come standard and they are a good combination for lighter, slower, operations that create dust. An Optional larger 1100 cfm 3 phase blower can be added as an upgrade for tougher applications that require more bench air movement or a larger work surface area. Don’t confuse air quantity with quality! Media Blast uses a pressure blower that pulls air longer, at higher suction ratings. This design keeps the dust filters in operation longer. Extremely high air-flow rates often, have much lower suction, this results in shorter air-flow times which make filter cleaning or replacement necessary sooner.

A vacuum blower moves very little air quantity and is a poor blower for dust collection but, it has massive amounts of suction. Something like a floor fan is a blower that moves huge quantities of air but, moves almost nothing when a duct is attached that requires suction. Having the right blower suction, measured in Static Pressure Inches Of, and the right air-flow quantity, is very important. The Tornado line of equipment uses intelligent bench design, with the right air-flow and suction ratios to create simple bench operation with no maintenance and longer filter life. The optional Enclosed Top can be added to help contain really tough jobs that create faster dust amounts. All units include fluorescent lighting; open top assembly with air directing back and side panels, fiberglass bar grates, cartridge filtration and a dust access door with a dust removal pan assembly. Almost all dust producing operations require the addition of some kind of operator protection. This can be as simple as an operator filter mask or it might require a permit to operate, that insures safety of operation, when collecting material that can be harmful and or a potential fire or explosion hazard requiring a stainless steel wet scrubber costing tens of thousands of dollars. Permit applications will indicate the type of unit required, the air-flow necessary and any possible design rules. The Media Blast Tornado is used for Nuisance Dust, dust that is not determined to be harmful in normal percentages. Adding a Tornado Pollution Control Work Bench will protect the operator and also protect valuable equipment in the area that may be operating using cooling heat sinks or other circuits that are affected by dust particles. The MSDS, (Material Safety Data Sheet), is a good place to start when deciding about the exact classification of the dust you are considering collecting. Always check with your state and local regulatory agencies for exact rules and regulations.

The Tornado line of pollution control benches may be the most cost effective solution to cleaning up that nuisance dust by helping to save money on costly insurance rates and creating a cleaner, healthier and happier operator work space and all without the need for any special installation requirements. The Tornado is not the solution for applications that require wet scrubbers and or materials that may have a possible potential for fire or explosion hazards. Mixing dust material is also not recommended with any equipment used to collect dust unless the equipment is located in specific areas using specific equipment safety features. If the dust is considered “Nuisance” and does not require a permit for collection, the Tornado is a low cost way to clean up the area and protect the operator and any surrounding equipment.

All Tornado units are available as a work station only, "Downdraft Workstation", models, for connection to central dust collector or wet scrubber systems. The Tornado Work Bench has the internal dust collector and blower assembly removed and replaced with an internal hopper assembly that includes a customer specified dust outlet attachment ring. This design eliminates any standing dust and the directional hopper is used to create the uniform air-flow at the operator work grates.

NOTE: Because of the potential fire or explosion hazards, the Tornado Pollution Control Work Benches are not to be used for welding applications or applications such as grinding or sanding of aluminum, titanium, magnesium or other explosive dust. These applications require permits for operation and must be equipped with wet dust collection or what is often termed as wet scrubber systems. Always check the material MSDS for changes in dust collection requirements. Always check with your state and local regulatory agencies for exact rules and regulations.
